Ultimate lightweight notebook – paper ThinkPads
A couple weeks ago, while browsing the blogosphere for all things Lenovo, I found a paper craft site in Japanese where they were showing off some really interesting models, inclduding ThinkPads. Intrigued by the complexity and detail, I asked Lisa, a colleague fluent in Japanese to tell me about the site, and I found out that the source of some of the ThinkPad material actually came from a Lenovo Japan website! Lisa has been good enough to guest post today, to share this fun diversion with us in English and Japanese…

I want to share an interesting paper craft from Lenovo ThinkPad Life where you can create your own ThinkPad using paper. Think of it like Origami art. ThinkPad paper craft is suitable as display at home or office and as educational material in class.
There are ThinkPad series such as X, X Tablet, T, R, Z and G that can be downloaded in PDF format. You’ll need Adobe Reader installed to access the files.
Choose your desired laptop series where you can just click the link and open the file, otherwise right-click and save the file in your computer. After that, you can print the file with using any paper type but for the best results, we recommended matt paper and stick glue as adhesive type.
In the photo below, you can see where I created ThinkPad T60 paper craft components. After printing, I cut out all the components on page 3 and 4 for folding, glueing and assembly.

Although the instructions are in Japanese, the illustrations should serve as a workable guide.
Here is the combined result of ThinkPad T60 paper craft. Results will vary based on your skill, patience, and printer quality.

I found it challenging, interesting and fun. Try one or build the whole ThinkPad series for a collection.

A funny and quite interesting idea, especially for kids like my 7 year old nephew, who’s passion is to always build paper crafted computers. Since my nephew is very talented in designing paper made computers, maybe like David Hill was once upon a time in his early childhood, I donated him now a real Thinkpad so he can design sketches on his own real computer.
In the meantime my little nephew became a master of the Thinkpad trackpoint, he’s such virtuosic and pixel precise with the trackpoint, that it is even for an old trackpoint fellow like me hard to keep up with him.
I believe my little nephew will like these paper crafts!

Yeah, these have been up on the Japanese IBM/Lenovo site for a while. I have them all saved, and I am planning on making the T60 with the components soon (eventually)
What I like about these is that they give a feel for the dimensions of the machine, and it gives me an idea of whether or not I want a specific system, considering that size and footprint are extremely big considerations for me (after durability, ThinkPad brandness, and battery life)

I have actually built one of those paper ThinkPads. I have built the X60 Tablet. (I enjoy building stuff.)

I can’t find the downloads for this… (the full sized one)
Where else can I download it from, and if I can’t, could you email it to me?
Thanks,
