Proof that we’ve raised the bar on system protection. Yes, it is self-promotion, but the technology works.
If you cannot see this video, click here. (By the way, if you cannot see this embedded video, you’re probably running Vista. This is another rant for another day, but both IE7 and Firefox won’t show the embedded video on my Vista machine!)

Well, that looks fine and promising for the new R61 and T61 Series. – But let me ask, where are the protection improvements of the reworked X-Series in these directions?
June 14th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
The embedded video works just fine in IE7 on my Vista x64 box.

Well i showed this video to my girlfriend to explain to her why i love my Thinkpad so much. She has a Dell and even tho mine is older than hers, my system still looks great while and i use mine a lot more than she does. This thing has travelled all over and still after a few drops it works like a champion!

Same here.

Oh and by the way. I was expecting a burn-out. At least.
I’ve punished my T60 and former T41p/t42’s more than that.

No Problem viewing this under Vista with Opera

Here’s something interesting the bigwigs at Lenovo need to read:
http://www.lenovo.com/news/us/.....6&
They’re marketing department and their customer service and production departments ought to get together. Cuz someone at Lenovo is LYING.
About Lenovo
Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) is dedicated to building the world’s best engineered personal computers. Lenovo’’s business model is built on innovation, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction as well as a focus on investment in emerging markets.

I would like the motocycle deliver the laptop on time.
Rathern than roll it over for fun and let me wait here for one month..no, now it is 5 weeks …and the waiting is continuing

I did more than that on my previous R51 good to know that Lenovo is maintaining IBM high quality and durability.

Embedded video works on Opera, Firefox and IE7 on my girlfriend’s Vista machine. Not on Safari though.
Wonderful video though. This makes me convince that no matter how long the delay to get a ThinkPad, it would be worth it. I also showed this to my girlfriend and told her, this is why I love ThinkPads.

What’s about X61 and T61 with 4:3 screens. Does they have the “Display Roll Cage” too?
June 16th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
That’s all well and good, but why do the T61 14.1W and 15.4W have the display “roll cage” (ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/.....5;3547.pdf, covering T61/R61 14.1W), but the initially issued 14.1 4:3 models don’t? (ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/.....5;3545.pdf).
The assembly drawings on pps. 114-116 of 42×3545.pdf show a simple perimeter frame for the 14.1 4:3, rather than the perforated piece with full coverage (a.k.a. “roll cage”) as shown on pps. 113-115 of the 14.1W T61/R61 hardware manual.
No camera for the 14.1 4:3, either. It looks like a deliberate downgrading of a model that many will prefer.
Will 14.1 4:3 versions be issued later that include the standard T61/R61 display improvements?
It’s actually somewhat curious. The 14.1 4:3 HMM ((42×3545.pdf) states that it covers the following models:
ThinkPad T61 and T61p (14.1-inch)
(MT 8895, 8896, 8897, 8898, 8899, 8900, and 8938)
T61p??? Say what? No roll cage, no camera, only up to 120GB HDD, no discrete graphics. Looks more like it only covers a new, not-stated-explicitly-as-such T61e. What gives, here?
June 16th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
No comment editing enabled, eh?
Erratum in the previous comment: the specifications page in the 14.1 4.3 HMM listed only up to 120 GB HDD, but the full parts listing does include the full range of disk options, including up to the 160 GB FDE HDD.

Actually, I’m impressed with the video.

Just today I threw – not placed, but threw – a bag with about 15lbs of stuff in it onto the passenger seat of my car…which I only remembered was where I put my T60 after I let go of the bag. I thought for sure the screen would be damaged. Nope, all is fine.
June 18th, 2007 at 4:13 am
Maybe if we’d seen it boot into Windows I would have been completely convinced.
But maybe Windows didn’t work after the bike had been over the computer. It wouldn’t surprise me.

@Allan, Why shouldn’t it? The harddrive is inside the main chassis, below the keyboard, which is below the screen. As the screen isn’t damaged I doubt the harddrive would have been.

Actually, the computer was in Windows when she opened it up. It likely was on while the bike was on it, or quickly resumed from suspend when she opened it. Look carefully and you’ll see that she taps “Esc” twice to close menus that had opened. The bike on top of it likely pressed the right click mouse button, or someone had inadvertently left those pop-up menus open before closing the lid. Also, if you look carefully, you’ll see the taskbar along the bottom of the screen. It appears to be running Microsoft Vista based on the shape of the start button.

Hardly impressive……. Did you notice how carefully he mounted onto the LCD Screen. This is more impressive…

I just bought the t60 — does that model have the Roll Cage? I’d never heard of it before! cool!

It is amazing how lenovo markets as well as hides the things it wants and does not want people to know………
no where else except in the lenovo specification sheet you will find that the thinkpad R61 15.4″ version is made of carbon fibre and not magnesium alloy which is used to make T61 versions and R61 14″ versions.
Also R61 15.4″ does not have the lcd protection roll cage that other models have…….obviously the video shows a R61 14″ version. The R61 15.4″ version would likely not survive this.
